Bảng phiên âm quốc tế (IPA)
Bảng phiên âm quốc tế (hay Bảng kí hiệu ngữ âm quốc tế, tiếng
Anh là International Phonetic Alphabet, viết tắt IPA) là hệ thống các kí hiệu
ngữ âm, dùng để thể hiện các âm tiết trong mọi ngôn ngữ, là tiêu chuẩn để phiên
âm cho mọi thứ tiếng trên thế giới.

1.2.3 Bảng phiên âm tiếng Anh IPA
Bảng phiên âm của tiếng Anh theo IPA, gọi tắt là Bảng phiên
âm tiếng Anh IPA gồm 44 phiên âm, trong đó có 20 nguyên âm và 24 phụ âm.
Các phiên âm được biểu diễn bằng một hoặc nhiều kí tự Latin.
Ghép các phiên âm lại để tạo thành cách đọc cho một từ.
Trong tiếng Anh, chỉ có 26 chữ cái, kết hợp lại để thành chữ
viết; nhưng có tới 44 âm khác nhau, kết hợp lại để tạo thành ngôn ngữ nói.

Vowels: nguyên âm; consonants: phụ âm; monophthongs : nguyên
âm đơn; diphthongs: nguyên âm đôi.
